How
does subtitling work?
DVD players can optionally display subtitles, in a
way similar to Ceefax. These subtitles are not "burned
in" to the picture, but can be switched on and
off by the user when watching the DVD. They can be in
virtually any language, and a disc can contain may different
subtitle languages.
Subtitling agencies specialise in transcribing all
the dialogue for a video and converting this script
into subtitles, including arranging the timing and display
style of the subtitles as well as translation into different
languages, if necessary. We will be happy to arrange
this for your project, if you like. Alternatively you
can create the subtitles yourself and supply them to
us as a correctly formated text file, or as images with
timecode references. These methods involve more work
for you, but can be much more cost-effective.
